Heavy humming when fans turned on :(

Featured Replies

Car has been fine, never had this before and drove to work fine this morning. Got in car tonight to go home, turned fans on and there is just a heavy humm noise, doesn't sound like it is coming directly from the glove box. Sound more central.

Humm gets louder / faster if I turn fan speed up and doesn't alter if i change what fans to blow air from either.

Any tips on what to check? Hoping it is a quick easy fix and no new parts.

Thanks.

There was a thread on this a few week ago. From memory (although I ive spelt since) its usually leaves and dust/dirt stuck on the fan motor.

think you can unbolt a cover in the passenger footwell, giving access to the fan blades and you can cleab them off... I think

. Have you changed your pollen filter lately?

edit: glove box out then the fans are very easy to get at to clean. Also a good idea to clean the recirculating flaps toowhile your in the area. Its wonderful what you find by just searching "fan" lol :)

On a lighter note, It could be the motor bearings have lunched themselves! It'll get progressively worse then it'll just fail, It's an easy job to swap out the motor though, Finding a reasonably priced one is the hardest part! That's brightened your day, I bet?

on a lighter note again. When the bearings seize the motor could overheat. Slowly building heat till it reaches flash point. At which point the dash will start burning fron the inside out. TThen its a simple task of getting a new car....

That helped ?:P

pull pollen filter out then put the fan on full whack .... then spend all the xmas break cleaning bits of leaves out of every piece of the car
