Excessive MPG over fueling

Featured Replies

I've just joined the club and brought myself a mk1 octavia vrs. The only thing thats upsetting me about the car is its drinking fuel. 260 miles on a full tank. The car is totally standard. I've got a mate thats got one thats remapped running on 240 bhp and he gets 380 miles to a full tank.

1. The vacuum pipes are not the best but do not appear to have any splits in them.

2. The dipstick sleeve has snapped. Could this be causing overfueling??

3. Could it be spark plugs?

4. Could it be the fuel filter?

5. Could it be the air filter

And can anyone let me know what the internal diameter of the vacuum pipe are. I think the larger ones's are 19mm? But there is a pipe that come off the T joint under the inlet manifold. It comes through a sort of 1 way valve and go's to the inlet manifold. Does anyone know the diameter of this one? and does the 1 way valve have to stay.

All help appreciated.

Moved to octavia section.

Sort the dipstick first, it could be pulling in excessive air which in turn cause the ecu  to add more fuel.

Their about a fiver, got to be worth a shot.

Hey Rad1,

Welcome to Briskoda!

You need to check all you vacum pipes. I recently was experience hi fuel consumption and found a crack in the hard pipe thats come from the brake booster to the manifold. I was also hearing the sssssssss noise it was making

I do not recomend you to replace any vacum "hard" pipes with regular hoses. The regular hose will collapse with the vacum........Maybe you can get a Hard Rubber Hose that do not colapse with Vacum....... Also, do not remove any Check Valve/One Way Valve

It will be a good idea that you get a inexpensive Generic Vag Com OBD cable and download free VCDS LITE so you can scan your Skoda computer for troubles codes.

I am including a picture of my cracked brake booster hard pipe.

If the bulk of your journeys are in town your mpg will be rubbish. Mine normally never betters mid twenties for that reason. Plus, I only live a couple of miles from work so it hardly gets up to temperature. I do try and give it a run once a week and can see high 30s or 40mpg.

Thanks for all your help guys. Changing the dipstick sleeve this morning. Cheers David 8. And going to look at the brake boost pipe at the same time. Nice 1 Turbo Boss.

I'll keep you all posted.

Make sure you fit it properly. Push down until it clicks into place

i just paid 1.10 for dipstick guide all breather pipes changed to silicone ones RED too lol

does your temp gauge reach and stay at 90 ? if not it may need a stat or temp sensor

Any news ??
