Fault P1114

Featured Replies

Had my engine light on and ita brought P1114 o2 sensor on resistance too high so I'm presuming it needs a new one it says bank one has anybody else had this issue

Are you sure that code number is correct as cannot find it in octy database

Had my engine light on and ita brought P1114 o2 sensor on resistance too high so I'm presuming it needs a new one it says bank one has anybody else had this issue

Its my undertanding that our car use two Oxigen Sensors. One before the CATalytic converter and the other after the CAT.

I think I have read that when it say BANK 1 SENSOR 1, it refers to the O2 Sensor that is before the CAT and when it say Sensor 2 it refers to the O2 sensor that goes after the CAT

When the problem is the O2 Sensor that is before the CAT, you will have poor gas mileage since this O2 sensor affect the engine performance, air/fuel trim, or therefore fuel economy.

When the problem is the O2 sensor that is after the CAT it does not affect your gas mileage. This sensor only check emissions from the catalyst.

Since I am not sure, lets wait until other member with more experience share his opinion about this. In the mean time, you can make a search on the net for: VW P1114 or Audi P1114 and you will find more info.

Good luck

So, is it possible to have a faulty O2 sensor causing poor mpg, but without the code?

no P1114 fault code listed on RossTech Wiki

Typo by the OP? Code P1116 shows

Possible Symptoms

  • Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) ON

Possible Causes

  • Fuse(s) faulty
  • Wiring and/or Connector(s) from/to Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor (G39) / Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Heating (Z19) faulty
  • Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor (G39) / Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Heating (Z19) faulty

Possible Solutions

  • Check Fuse(s)
  • Check Wiring and/or Connector(s) from/to Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor (G39) / Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Heating (Z19)
  • Check/Replace Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor (G39) / Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Heating (Z19)

Or P1111

Possible Causes

  • Mass Air Flow Sensors (G70) faulty
  • Intake Air System faulty/leaking (false Air)
  • Fuel Injector(s) faulty
  • Insufficient Fuel Delivery
  • Exhaust System leaking
  • Faulty O2 Sensor(s)

Possible Solutions

  • Check Mass Air Flow Sensors (G70)
  • Check Intake Air System for Leaks
  • Check Fuel Injector(s)
  • Check Fuel Delivery Including Pump and Filter
  • Check Exhaust System for Leaks
  • Check O2 Sensor(s) Adaptation Values (Before Clearing Faults: Fuel Trim Information)

Code P1117

17525/P1117 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Heating Circuit: B1 S2: Short to Ground Possible Symptoms
  • Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) ON
Possible Causes
  • Failed O2 sensor heater circuit
  • Wiring Harness issue
  • Failing ECM
Possible Solutions
  • Inspect and test O2 sensor heater circuit as per repair manual
  • Inspect and test wiring harness as per wiring diagram
  • Replace ECM if O2 sensor and wiring harness are to factory design

So, is it possible to have a faulty O2 sensor causing poor mpg, but without the code?

I will say no............ I am pretty sure if you have a faulty O2 Sensor, you will have a malfuntion code.

Cheers thought it was that as I did a data log and bank 1,seemed to be doing nothing was weird tho as it passed its mot on 22nd was fine on emmisions has it has a sports cat then all of a sudden week later light came on so I'd of thought if it was faulty might have shown on mot emmisions.

I'll order one tommorow regarding fuel.it ain't the best but its stage two revo with front mount etc so not the best anyway

Probably damaged the wiring fitting the sport cat, bit of a coincidence

Sports cat has been on few years ive only had the car 3 month its prob down to age

Its my undertanding that using a sport CAT you need to install the O2 sensor with some spacers in order that they are not direcctly in the flow section.  Do you have these espacers?

Check this. They talk about the Spacers and have picture of them. They called "Non fouler mods"

I thought you only needed spaces if it was a full de cat as both my lambda will be read different readings so shouldn't bring light on

Ah sorry I read that as you had a sports cat on and it happened a week later
