How do i tell if my vRS is remapped?

Featured Replies

Hey guys, long time since my last post so i thought i'd come back and ask (as above) if there's anyway to tell if my vrs is remapped. Nine months or so ago i tried a 0-60 and got around 7.5, didnt believe this, so ive just tried again and on a wet a road i got about 7.2! i wont be doing this again any time soon as i want to look after my car as i want its new clutch to last a while! Does 7.2 seconds to sixty sound like its remapped?? is there any other way of telling?? the car is running a pd160 intake and green cotton air filter. thanks in advance :)

For me the give away is the boost.

A mapped car will usually hold it's boost and give a feeling of power to the redline.

A stock car will come on boost, then fall off it about 1000rpm or so before the redline, encouraging early gearchanges to stay in it's narrower powerband.

they usually feel quicker and most run above the cited 130bhp. 140 -150 is common for a later BLT engined Fabia vRS.

Ahhh ok thanks yeah i'll have to check that out! it does seem to rev quite well to be honest

When mine was standard I thought mine pulled well to the red line and thought it was mapped but then I logged the boost and found it was standard now I'm running a map the difference is unreal. It really does pull like a train. Best way to know for certain is to log the boost

Only way to really tell is a diagnostic test, if you know any place that can plug up to the ECU, any place with half even the most basic knowledge of VAG engines should be able to tell you straight away if its mapped. Assuming you have no actual need for the diagnostic its self which £40 would be a going price to pay for such a report, I would not bother personally paying for the diagnostic, however armed with the knowledge that they dont really need to run a diagnostic to tell you if its mapped and just need to link up to your ECU as if they where going to run the diagnostic to give you the feed back you need, I would go around flashing a quick off the books £10 in the pocket kind of deal, no need for invoices or a receipt right to tell you if its mapped, in the hope I could find someone willing to take the tenner for 5 mins of there time to find out what you want to know.

However if you really want to know more about the map other than simply, is it mapped (yes or no), then £40 for a diagnostic report would give you some extra feedback, or better still the rolling road £80 per hour been the going rate, and then you will know all there is to know about what your map is producing.
