Bought car 3 years ago

Knew it was an ex demo car but was in good knick and low ish milage. Not had any problems so far (touch wood)

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on demo cars and would you touch one ?

All I can think of is them maybe getting ragged when cold.

When I think of demo cars I think good spec usually. Not really ragged from cold as such. My worry buying one would be the clutch thinking of all the inexperienced drivers getting used to a different car and getting a little bit excited with the go pedal.

Definitely ragged from cold. LOTS of very short journeys being driven by people who don't care. Think of it as a hire car rather than a demo and see how you feel about it.

If it's cheap enough, why not? It has 3 years warranty after all.

There's a risk, worst case, that every journey they ever make are irregular short journeys.  i.e. short trips with cold start, with periods of just standing there in between.

So most engine wearing kind of trips, and just sat there rotting away.

But you can imagine that maybe every so often it gets sent on an errand somewhere, or used to pick up / drop off customers, etc.  Maybe goes to another member of the dealer group further afield for a test drive when they don't have one available?  (don't know if that happens)

Personally I'd avoid, but it's all about the deal isn't it?  What's the price, what's the warranty, what does the warranty cover, etc.

Sounds like yours is alright though, so there you go.

My wife's sister (a nutter - crazy cat woman who doesn't work) has got an 02 plate Honda Jazz (bought for her).  Sits there outside all week except one visit to sewing class two miles down the road.  Once a month, makes a trip to wales to her mum and dad's.  It should be f*cked, but it just keeps going and going.  Amazing those things.  (Needs a new battery every year though)

we got a 04 bora that was a ex demo car when it was around 6 months old .... 10 years later and 105k on the clock its still better than my fabia :(

I wouldn't be put off buying an ex-demo car any more than I'd be put off buying a well looked after high miler. You can save an absolute fortune and you usually get all the extras on them as well.

I had a Corsa VXR Nurburgring before I chopped it in for the vRS due to a change in circumstances and I bought that ex-demo, 8 months old and got a very good deal. It had ALL the optional extras and the remainder of manufacture warranty left.

Yeah ok you can't say for sure it hasn't been ragged... but unless it's brand spanking new you can't say that about any car to be fair. If the deal is good I wouldn't be put off!
