price on coolant temp sensor i bought today.! :-o

Featured Replies

called into tps for a coolant temp sensor for the vRS today....

I very near fell over when he said the price,,,,

36 quid inc the vat.!!!! :whew:  :rain:

the same part for my e30 would be around the 12 quid mark.! I take it these are multi functional and not only send temp to guage but also ecu for fueling..?...

anyway, came home, looked on ebay and found one for 7 quid exactly the same part number, looks identical but the rubber o ring AND retaining clip included with 2 year warrenty... orderd that and taking the other back to tps to shove up their arse

to say I was stunned would be an understatement

Ebay sensors are well documented on here by other members for a very short service life on average, some even being faulty from the get go.

The general rule of thumb is for sensors, vag/tps are best for minimal problems, but as you have found, are not exactly cheap.

You are also correct that the sensor provides an ecu feed as well as a guage feed.

Hope it helps

temp guage doesn't work,, car hesitates between 2400-2800rpm,, anything above shes absolutely mint.

im gunna try it now mate purely as I have already ordered it after I thought 36 quid was extortion.!! if it fails I will then have pay the 36 for a genuine item :-(

Buy a real one eBay ones are notorious fot not working. Genuine only is the rule. Buy cheap buy twice.

Mine was £17 from GSF and has been fine. Also when you follow guides on how to replace it, dont believe anyone who says you get a trickle of coolant come out, there talking ****. It pours out so have a bowl underneath lol

if you let the engine cooling over night and replace it in the morning you'll lose something like 2 spoons of liquid

Make sure you get the O ring out, you can lose quite a bit of coolant if the O ring decides to stick in place.

Always use genuine cts eBay ones fail in weeks and 9 times out of ten send incorrect signal

Fit it and check vagcom

You will learn what not to buy with these cheap and that's the cts and maf

tps didn't even give me the retaining clip and when I looked yesterday,, the retaining clip that's currently holding the cts in the car is snapped.!

I didn't go anywhere near it after that lol..

Had been stood over 12hours

Did you undo the expasion tank cap?, as I've found it really important to get as much stored vacuum effect in the system as possible before you pull the clip, so I tend to not touch it till it is changed over which tends to really limit the coolant loss in my experience,

At the end of the day all cars have their little quirks so you just roll the dice really when doing something like this. :)

its really no problem,, one is bound to loose a dribble of coolant when changing one of these.... in effect, when fitting the new one you are literally pluggin the hole lol
