Can I switch off wing mirror puddle lights?

Featured Replies

I've just got a 2011 FL Octy 2, and I love it. But one of my hobbies is stargazing, and a group of us often congregate at dark sites on Salisbury Plain. You'll appreciate that dark adaptation is everything when stargazing, and so the ability to arrive, park and set up stealthily without ruining everyone else's enjoyment is important.

I'm going to be putting some red acetate sheet over my front door interior puddles and the boot lights, but I can see that the wing mirror lights - which come on whenever the car is unlocked or the boot opened - will get very annoying. Is there a way of disabling this?

if you have vcds

you can code them out

take 2 away from the coding

if you want the door card lights switched off, take 64 away from the coding

Cheers - I don't have VCDS, would love to get it but the $250 asking price is putting me off! Is this something a dealer would do for me?

There may be a member on here local to you that would do it for you, have a look in the vcds section.

If you go to Salisbury Plain you cannot be too far from me, give me a shout and we can give it a go, I have VCDS

Does it flag up as an error on the dash if you simply take the bulbs out, and I didn't think it did since it's a afterthought in terms of lighting and not a major one like headlights? Getting them out isn't that hard so ight be worth a shot to see what happens. Worst case, you just put it back in and look for an other solution but it won't cost anything except 10-20 minutes of your time.

Certainly on my pre-FL it doesn't flag up any errors if the puddle light bulbs are removed.

I'd put some red insulation tape over the bulbs.

John, that would be great - I'll PM you.

Les, that would work - sort of, the red wouldn't be very deep so it would still be bright - but I just couldn't bring myself to do that to a shiny new car!
