Engine management light came on and engine cut out when trying to pull away three times.Fourth time it pulled away and has been fine since,but light is still on.fault code reads P2540 low presure fuel system.

Any ideas ?.

P2540 is only half the code. You also need the context code.

Is it Range/Perf, Implausable Signal, ... ?

Try reseating the connector on the fuel pump. It could also be a bad sensor.

Are there any other codes? Often simple readers only show you the first.

I'm guessing that it means control circuit low. VAG code readers (or VCDS) are usually more specific.

Problem now solved,was the fuel presure sensor.had it renewed and now runs fine.Thanks rwbaldwin for your input and hope this may help someone else in the future.
