Possible misfire on idle?

Featured Replies

Iv been using the misses car for a few days and Iv noticed when sat at a junction or a set of lights it's like the engine has so random misfire as you feel the car shake/shudder slightly. The rev counter needle flickers slightly too. Iv not been in the car a lot tbh since we have had it so Iv never noticed it before.

Just wondered if this is normal for these to do it or should they be smooth?

The car in question is a 04 plate 1.4 16v.

Thanks

Kev

Unfortunately they do this at a certain age/mileage, I think it may be carbon build-up in the cylinder head. I'm going to try a terraclean and see if it improves.

Ah okay as long as it's nothing faulty as such, , this one has only done 35k or is that more of an issue as it's been mainly town driving

Yes, the town driving is the issue.

I have been giving it a fair big and tbf it doesn't go bad when you get the revs up the range so it can't be doing it any harm and maybe will do it some good. Where do you think the carbon build up is????

On the valves since most of the pent-roof combustion chamber is valve area, thrashing it and using super-plus unleaded will definitely help, keep it up.

Hummmm il have a look around to see if there's anything out there to try help clear this up a bit

Some people have used Seafoam to good effect I hear, I'm not a big believer in magic jizz though, it's how Halfrauds make their munny, that and colouring crayons for dribbling infants with driving licences.

Which grade of petrol are you using?

95 or 98 octane?

It will be 95 as the misses just get it when shopping.

Forte do some very good engine treatments which I have used in the past for other things with good results
