I have a 2010 Octavia FL 1.9 TDi PD engine BXE code.  On warm start up it has started to make a horrible knocking noise but only when it is warm and you return to the car a few minutes and you feel the whole engine knocking and it feels like the exhaust is banging against the floor.  Let the car go cold for an hour or so and it will start perfectly every time.  I have had a new DMF fitted about a month a go as the clutch was getting very high and decided to have the whole lot replaced.  The car has done 66k miles and it runs perfect with no other judders or running issues.

 

Also there has always been a rotational noise from the engine that sounds like a bearing noise but it's a slow noise in relation to the engine speed.  If you operate the clutch this has no effect on this noise. This was another reason behind replacing the DMF.

 

Any thoughts or ideas on this would be great please?

What was the fault?

Mine recently started doing the single thump, only when started warm. Sounds like a single missfire on a petrol engine, changed battery and coolant temp sensor without any joy, will change the starter next but not holding my breath on it curing it.
