Big bill.......

Featured Replies

Not having a good time with my vRS and I am staring down the barrel of a big bill. Can anyone advise on an estimate of cost for the following for my 2009 MKII FL 2.0 vRS Petrol:

. Major service due & MOT (62,000 miles)

. Cambelt due (Assumed it's about time to change it)

. Clutch (Making a horrible noise I assume from the release bearing but the clutch functions perfectly, does anyone know if this can be repaired without a full new clutch)

. Anything else you would advise I have done whilst the car is in pieces?

My preference is to have the work done by Skoda (Probably Lookers Manchester on Bury New Road) and sell the car once it becomes economical to do so, that is however unless someone on here can recommend a really good indy in the Manchester area who can undertake the above.

Thanks in advance for your advice

Blimey your car is same age as mine its not for the scrape heap yet surely? The service will be about 240. You have a chain so no belt. Dunno about the clutch maybe take it to an indy?

Mine 2010 Similar age as mine but mine only 38k

I had new sachs clutch due to bearing gone. There seem to be national prices on these on Skoda website. I paid for a full kit with new dmf. That was about 700. They could have just done bearing but with all off thought best to replace all. Bearing only about 30 quid labour is the bigger cost 4 to. 6 hours.

. Cambelt due (Assumed it's about time to change it)

If it's TSI no belt it's a chain. If I could go back I would replace chain and tensioner as mine just died.

. Anything else you would advise I have done whilst the car is in pieces? As above.

Not for the scrap heap no but you know how it is, I'll be back in love when it's all done and clean I'm sure.

It must be one of the very first FL MkII's as a 2009 plate I see newer pre face lifts on the road! Good news to hear it's a chain not a belt - sorry to come across as clueless but I really am a turn the key and drive it type of person.

Good advice on the chain and tensioner thanks. Does the chain have a lifespan / recommended replacement time?

Thanks

You live in Manchester; if you want a reputable independant, you're scarcely a million miles from AwesomeGTi (or find them in the Site Sponsors fora).

Does the chain have a lifespan / recommended replacement time?

No.

May well be a smaller bill then, I hope!
