Drivers electric seat

Featured Replies

Morning all! Picked up my first skoda superb yesterday and generally very happy with it.

One of the niggles I have is the drivers side electric seat. When I first got into the car it didn't work at all, all buttons - dead

I had a play under the seat and pulled what I think is the power from the unit left it a couple of minutes and then plugged it back on - the seat then worked!! After I turned the car off the seat then stopped working again!

So it seems if I want to get the seat moving I need to disconnect the power to it and plug it back in. - every time.

Has anyone seen this before? Or could recommend some actions?

Many thanks

If you have the electric memory driver's seat (three number keys and a red Off button) then the box you unplugged is the seat control unit, and it can be queried over VCDS to see if it thinks there is a problem.  That would be my first port of call.

If you are going to do much work on the car yourself then VCDS pays for itself pretty quick, if not a lot of forum members have it and can scan it for you.

If you don't know the history of the car regarding any water ingress and remedial action taken, then check the big thread on it.  Even if someone tells you it has been "done" you probably want to check, as in my case "done" by the dealership meant they'd taken the plenum drain grommets out and not replaced the pollen filter seal, and then I still had a leaky driver's door.  They all leak eventually.

If the car has had water in it you could have corrosion set in at a connection somewhere (loom, connectors, ground points).

To be honest I have read a lot about the water ingress and when I get chance I will be having a closer look. I do have a few other electrical niggles and the water ingress issue I guess would explain them!

Thanks for your prompt reply, much appreciated
