Intermittant noisy AC, grinding sound?

Featured Replies

My Yeti had to go in for a re-gas a month or so ago, much to my disgust as I use climate all the year round and the Yeti is only 2 years old.....never had this on any other of my cars...

Anyhow since the re-gas the ac fan makes an intermittant grinding noise when the engine revs rise whilst moving. Its been back once already and the dealer said it was fixed, but it's still doing it. Anyone else have any ideas or thoughts so I can assist the dealer?

If it had to go for a re-gas, it almost certainly means you have a leak.

The "grinding" noise is usually a sure-sign that you have low gas pressure in the system - meaning the pressure is gradually dropping.

Expect the A/C to stop working again in the next few weeks.

No car should need re-gassing after 2 years - if it does it means there is a leak in the system.

There is apparently a common fault on the condenser rad which *should* be covered as a goodwill replacement if it's faulty - so I have read from others.

Or it could be that you have a hole in the condenser as it's right at the front of the car and susceptible to stone damage.

My a/c suddenly stopped working 4 weeks ago. The condenser had completely failed and lost all pressure. I was told by the Skoda dealer in Peterborough that the condenser is in a vulnerable position on the Yeti, prone to stones hitting it etc.

Skoda now fit a more robust type. Mine was replaced under warranty. It's 3 years old in November this year.

thanks guys, I have booked it in so will see what happens.

My AC has just packed up too; only 21 months/52,000 mile old. According to the nice man at Skoda it is a known fault with the condenser as described above and will be replaced under warranty but not for another 2 weeks due to demand on spares!!
