Strange ? Noise

Featured Replies

Hi,

This may be difficult to diagnose but - my 2.0l Scout has developed another ! odd noise. Seems to be from front of car and difficult to put into words.

Best I can do is, at low revs,  it is making a "pop pop pop"  noise, not loud but noticeable. As revs speed up so does the noise to a "bobbly bobbly" and then (fainter)  a "brrrr". As if something is rattling at low speed but gets better the faster it goes.

Recent work has been timing belt/water pump but I think it was there before that. Put clutch down and noise vanishes - back off on accelerator and the same thing happens.

Worryingly, for a few years there used to be an intermittent faint whine, which has now stopped - something has got worse ?

Has failed last 2 MOTs with, firstly a split CV joint gaiter and second the clamp band missing on the other side !!?  Not bad for a 6yr old car with only 57k on the clock. ( Last car an old Subaru Forester passed 7 MOTs on the trot, never a problem !).   Would any CV joint "knocking" give this noise ?

Will want to be doing around 500 miles towing at end of month, this noise has got me worried !

Have taken off the ABS engine covers, they have worked loose on the push in clips , because this has caused noises in the past - no difference, so just needs re-fixing (any ideas ?)

Regards,

Lloyd

Can you get a recording of the noise at all? video or audio?
