To cut a long story short:

My 2 month old Fabia has been back to my local dealer a grand total of 6 times to get 2 problems resolved. The rear number plate kept fading within a few days and the rattle in neutal problem. Along with these problems has been poor workmanship which has led to it going back again. Also this kind of thing happened with my last Fabia.

Clearly the garage is in breach of contract. You can only claim damages (compensation) for the costs that flow from that breach. That is all you will get if you take them to court. However courts nowadays can and sometimes do in certain cases allow damages for "loss of enjoyment" or some other such phrase. But that is alway a bit more difficult to get.

However on a commercial note (rather than legal) few people offer their bottom line to start with. If that is their first offer they will probably go better if you persist. The problem with that is if they really stick and call your bluff you are only left with the legal position. So be persistent but don't dig too deep a hole and leave a "ladder" to get out of in negotiations would be my advice.
