CEL not lighting up, car wont start

Featured Replies

First of all, I'd like to thank you guys. This forum has been of immense help lately.

I have a skoda octavia 1 VRS (1.8T). When I turn the key to "on" position, all the dash lights light up except the CEL.

When I try to start the car, it cranks but doesn't start. I recently had the coils replaced because the old coils gave up (one of them didn't produce any spark at all).

Any suggestions from the experts here?

Thanks :)

Can you connect to the ECU with vcds do you know?

Can you connect to the ECU with vcds do you know?

Hi, I dont have VDS. I was hoping to do a little troubleshooting myself before I go to the dealership.

Although, since the CEL is not turning on, I do suspect a power failure to the ECU or an ECU failure (I hope not)

Check the fuses as some are ECU related.

Had the same issue a while back, it was the wiring to the ecu (just next to the plug).  My OBD reader wouldn't connect and I was told VCDS would be the same by a local Audi/VW specialist.

The auto electrician who found the break thought it was probably due to when someone had installed my cruise control or LPG conversion, I'm no techy so I assume they must splice into one of the wires or something when installing.

Might be worth a look if you've cruise control fitted

It was the fuse. It wasn't blown but the fuse's contact was broken from one side so it looked okay from outside.

Thanks a lot BrownBarge, pauldazzle and red devil   :)
