The help and knowledge of fellow members would be appreciated.  Car is 1.4TSI Octavia 2011 with approx 50k on the clock.

 

EPC light occasionally comes on (every few weeks), I think caused by a misfire (feels like 3 cylinders).  The car is driven fairly normally rarely exceeding 3000rpm except when sometimes overtaking or joining motorway.

 

Strange thing is if I stop and restart the engine it then runs normally with no EPC lit up. Is there any obvious/normal explanation.  Car is due for service in a few weeks but would like some clues so I can avoid being ripped off.
