Skoda Fabia 1.4 MPI SE (Reg Mar 2012). ESP or no esp?

Featured Replies

Hi All

My hubby has just bought a Fabia, the spec in the web said it has ESP, but there is no ESP button and no light illuminates on start-up. We have come across several Skodas of the same age and trim that also claim to have ESP and turned out not to have it. What is going on?

Do you mean the Dealers Advert had Spec for the car as an example listing what a car might have fitted?

Or checking other Sites on the vehicles specifications?

There are adverts for cars,  Skoda Dealerships, Autotrader ads etc,

that list things like LSD, Front Fog Lights and these are not on all models,

just from the Information used be Dealers taken from Skoda Information.

ESP is an optional extra up until about July 2013 models i think.

Unless it was selected as an extra to be built with, by the first owner, it wont have it. I dont think it can be retrofitted.

Apparently theres a sticker in the boot near the spare wheel (or where it would be if youve got one) which states what optional extras were fitted at the factory. I havent seen it myself but others have said its there, so its worth a look

Believe the short run of MPI's were built to stock with no options being available, so I'd be surprised to see one with ESP.

The code to look for on the option code sticker in the front of the service book and on the boot floor is;

1AT = Electronic stabilization program (ESP)

However, no traction control switch or dash light would indicate its not fitted.

There is no indicator light or dash switch. We have come across a couple of cars at different dealerships that have wrongly stated that the car has ESP. I don't think this is an attempt to mislead, but a genuine error somewhere. I have a 2008 Fabia 3 estate and I had Esp added as a factory option when I bought it new.

I think its safe to say this one doesnt have it.

I was pretty sure it wouldnt have but after reading TP's post, im even more confident it hasnt now.

I had a Jan 12 one of these, also in red, they were a special edition 1.4 MPI SE built to a standard spec only available in red, blue or white at under 10k. They were not fitted with ESP.

Was it an end of run thing for the 1.4mpi or something?

Yes they were, and they were priced at 9K I think.

Similar to the SE spec cars with the 1.2htp 70 that are priced at £9500 at the moment then :)

If you are happy posting or PMing the vehicle registration I can check and see if it has any optional extras on the vehicle from factory (will not show after market) so that it will at least let you know if your specific car did have it added at factory.

Dont think ESP can be retrofitted anyway. Its either factory, or not at all, i think.
