Road Angel Problem

Featured Replies

A question for anyone who use a Road Angel.

I have had one for a couple of months now and it is fitted on top of dash on right hand side. The back of the unit is fairly close to the windscreen - admittedly this position is bound to result in some loss of vision to GPS staellites due to fairly close proximity to A pillar.

The problem that I have is that the unit is losing GPS "fix" for fairly long periods of time (sometimes 10-15mins) - I can understand that it would lose satellites due to tree cover, buldings in town etc. but sometimes it seems to lose fix in a clear area and always take a long time to recover.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I would be tempted to fit an external antenna to the unit (we make GPS antennas) but the unit has a warranty seal on it!

Thanks for any suggestions, apart from getting an Origin Blue!

John.

I have the same with the reradiating antena. I had mine where you have yours and had no problems, installed boost gauge etc and moved it under the radio, now flacky.

Hi Jon,

Thanks for your info.

Have now discussed my problem with the tech dept at Black Spot who were extremely helpful.

They have agreed to send me out a replacement unit tomorrow, which I reckon is pretty good service!

Sorry for resurrecting this old discussion, but as a Road Angel user myself, has anyone had issues updating the database recently on their unit - I have been trying to update my RA2 all week, but no PC I have tried it on has connected to the server (all other indications are everything is OK) to carry out the update.

Anyone else having the same issue? Have tried Blackspots technical assistance page, and submitted a question, but have had no response to that either. :thumbdwn:

Cheers guys
