dashboard rattle and electric heater

Featured Replies

hi, i.ve owned my 2008 2.0 tdi Octavia elegance estate for a couple of months now. its low mileage - 41000 - and still smells like new inside and has no faults, except one, when the car is idling there is an annoying rattle from behind the dash on the drivers side, only on idle though. I have yet to find it but I have stripped out the centre console side panels and glove box at the moment as i'm looking into fitting an electric heater into the slot behind the cover on the heater box.  so I thought whilst I was under there I would try and remove the panel under the dash, I have removed the 2 screws I can see plus the one behind the end panel but its not budging. I don't want to force it so are there any more hidden screws behind the silver trim where the light switch is. if so how do I get to them ?

on the subject of electric heaters, there seems to be different ones, they all have the same size element but different ends, some with one threaded post, others with 2 posts and a plug. they will all fit but don't know which one to go for. I watched a thread on this subject where a guy fitted it to a golf and ran a heavy wire to the fuse box, another wire to earth and had to splice 2 smaller wires into a loom and then activate it using vagcom. i'm guessing the 2 post one with the plug is the one to go for as i'm assuming the plug with the small wires that are spliced into the loom must be to do with the climatronic unit ??

i'll keep you posted how I get on with it.

I had similar... Mine was the bonnet stay, was rattling on slam panel when shut. Sounded like was inside car.. Far dash area.

I've put a bit of black tape around the stay to keep it clipped in place tighter. And then a sticky frame protector pad from my bike onto the slam panel,

Cured it instantly. You'll be able to tell if yours is same issue as slam panel under bonnet will be scratched in that area...
