Hi there I own a 2003 Octavia vrs 1.8 petrol with 160000k on the clock, car has developed a couple of problems, have owned the car for the past year only thing I have had to change is the pipe under the inlet manifold as it was split, for sum reason its started to have sum starting problems, takes a few turns of the engine before it starts and when it does its a rough start and idles about 1500rpm but does drop down after few minutes, when it is driven its fine after a few minutes to,hope Someone can help thanks

Welcome to Briskoda. I would recommend having a diagnostic scan to see what fault codes have been logged.

Hi thanks for the reply, had it on already only codes where 17704 characteristic field controlled coolant system malfunction permanent and 17947 clutch pedal implausible signal permanent

What have you done to investigate the fault below? If the engine ECU is getting incorrect temperature information from the dual temperature sender, it could result in the engine being misfuelled on startup. I would change the dual temperature sender first to rule that out as being a possible cause.

Have not done anything as of yet,put the car on the computer the other day to find if there was any faults loged and these where the only ones, cant get new sensor till my local TMS opens on Monday, car starts fine from cold just when its warm it has this problem,my temp gauge does drop from half then down a lot then back up,I did notice today that the revs after the dropped sat a bit low from what they usually do,apart from that it drives grate

The temperature gauge and the engine ECU receive information from separate sensors in the dual temperature sender. So if the former misreads it does not necessarily mean that the latter is getting incorrct information, and vice versa. When I owned a 2002 Octavia 1.8T 4X4 the original dual temperature sender was known to be problematic so I changed it for the later modified one. You can visually check which one you have as the old one is black and the modified one is green.

If its the sensor on the gearbox side of the engine on the coolant hose the sensor on mine is green,do you recommend changing this for a new one then clear any fault codes on the ECU and see what happens from there, car seems to have a slight boost surge/hesitation when driving really slow at 1500rpm its like the turbo boosts before it should, always had it since I got the car.
