2014 Superb Combi - Tires 24,000 KLMs

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

The car came with Continental Sports (18 inch) and I have found that they are good for performance but the longevity is poor to say the least.

(I have had issues with tyres from hours after I took delivery but that was sorted , kinda)

The car has almost 24000 kilometres on it and although high ish for a 6 month old car, its seems poor that I have to replace the tyres so soon.

(I am aware that the bigger the wheel the less "mileage" one can expect from a tire)

There are a number of posts on this site regarding tyres: However, If anyone can advise me as to a good performance tire that will also give longevity and are not noisey, it would be great !!

:)

Thank You

(note to self: tire = American English : tyre = British English)

1 vote for Goodyear Efficientgrip Performances, maybe rated as an "eco"-tyre but grip and longevity seem to be very good, I have run a set for exactly 20.390km during the summer and there seems to be 60-70% of life left, so I'm hoping to take them to 50.000 without issues unless they start wearing down more rapidly as they age!

GoodYear EfficientGrip Performance, and GoodYear Eagle F1 A2 are the two that should be top of your short list.

Just a note 24,000 klms is less that 15,000 miles

:)

My front Conti's lasted 12k miles, the rears 20k miles and the GYEGP have more than doubled that, so my vote is GoodYear.

That's lower that the 30k kms I got from my last set of contis.  Disappointing but you will only get about 35k kms at most on the average 18".  I'm hoping to get more from the Bridgestones.  I would have gone for the GYEGP too if they had been in stock

My Michelin Energy Savers (sorry, not available in 18") have now done 30686 km, and still have 6.0 mm of profile left (when they were new they had 7.3 mm). Two tips: Change your tyres to Michelin and drive quieter. This saves not only your tyres, but also fuel and brakes.

All down to use type, urban you'd burn em @ 9k, mostly motorway will run to 30k, more turns more wear,

Check Tyreshopper for replacements, I run 18's and get mine for £62 a corner, Wanli or Westlake from National Tyres, not great but wear really well tbh, step up to a Barum if you want something better, £110 a pop for mine, I personally put 4 Bridgestones on my Sup 1 and it took em out in 11k and they didn't do anything over what the cheap tyres did, cheapies used to do 16k same use.

When i was looking for replacement tyres I tried all the internet sites and the cheapest was my village tyre shop!

My Superb has now covered 95000km, and is still running the original Continental EcoContact 3 tires. I have winter tires as well, so they have of course not covered the full distance. They still have thread for a season, so that´s pretty good, I think. They are 205/55-16.

WTF I would expect these tanks to last for 15K miles on front wheel drive, before ditching the front tires

Ok,

I settled for the Goodyear Excellence

http://www.goodyear.eu/ie_en/tires/passenger/excellence/

€150.00 each

Had the first two fitted today and the other two will be fitted next week.

We see how they go :)

(The tires that came off (originally on the front but rotated at 15,000Klm's) were in a shocking state. Almost completely bald!)
