Recommendation for fun daily driver on a budget

Featured Replies

It's been a bad day. A bus driver somehow failed to see my beloved MkI Octy VRS and subsequently clattered into its front end. The car is still drive able and it looks like the damage may be largely cosmetic but the impact has knocked nearly all of the front end panels out of where they should be and I'll be amazed if Mr Insurance Man says that its anything but the bullet for the old girl :(

I am absolutely gutted, but i have tentatively started looking on AutoTrader for likely replacements but im coming up short of ideas. Unfortunately money is tight at present given the very recent arrival of our son but at the same time i cant bear the thought of driving around in a dull box-mobile, I want to try and get something that will be fun for daily driver purposes and preferably around the 6k mark.

The only thing im seeing at present is the 2.0 TFSI Seat Leon of around 2007 age, i don't have much experience with the Leon, i know its a good drive but I've always through the interiors were a bit "plasticky" and cheap.

I have looked at Mk2 Octavia VRS' but cant really see any decent ones for sub £7000 :(

As such, any recommendations for other motors that would fall into the above criteria and would be worth a look would be greatly appreciated guys.

Thanks

What about another mk1? Plenty about I'm sure. The Leon is nice and a step up probably but agree the interiors don't look great.

6k buys quite a lot of cars at the mo. Go to a local used car supermarket and have a wander round..then take a few out for a drive. That's what I do.

You can pick up anything fast with a Subaru badge on it for less than £7k. See if you can find a legacy 3.0 spec B.

BMW 3 series are a good shout.

Audi S3?

With that budget and fun as the priority, the world really is your oyster.

Civic type R? BMW 330i? BMW 130i?

If you like the mk1 that much, get another one!! I would.

RWD going to be most fun. Older 3 series probably a good shout or an MX5 if you don't need the space.

You should even get an early Honda S2000 for that sort of money now.
