My Octavia seems to have on overly heavy clutch... it has no problem changing gear but I do seem to have to push the pedal all the way back to change.

 

I was thinking air in the system and getting it bled? Would that be the first thing to try or should I go for something else first?

you need a new clutch kit....the pressure plate is worn and you have the heavy clutch pedal

 

If you would had air in sistem the clutch would be very light....too light

The clutch in my Octavia is heavier than in my old Fabia - not sure whether that's because the clutch plate is more worn or just a characteristic of the car?

my vrs has the same prob.. needs a clutch no other way around it lol..

I had a heavy clutch too,and after I replaced it DMF included the pedal is very light and pleasant....and still is after 4.5 years
