First timer, apologies if I've got it wrong.

I joined to get specific advice for a disastrous car. Bought 9 month old Octavia SLXI 2.0 in July 2001. Has had to be returned 8 times because engine management light on dashboard; faults vary from temp sensor to fuel mix problems. Light returned July this year, but this time told the ECU was the problem (car now out of warranty), costing

Send them a letter telling them how appalled you are at their service and the product they gave you (we all know generally Skoda make good cars, but do it to scare them, and tell them your a Briskoda member and you can get word out real quick on their services)...better yet, go there and yell at the about it.

It is very uncommon for ECU `s to go down.

We have had quite a few people come to us saying that the dealer says that there is a problem with their ECU.

One of them was down to a lambda probe.

The only one I have known to go faulty was a Felicia where the battery went pop with overcharging from faulty regulator on the alternator.

I have worked with Skoda`s now for 6 years.

I would not just pay up and shut up.

Get on the phone to the customer care.

But then you will find that customer care are very good for cars that have been owned by the same person from new.

But give it a go.

The first port of call though would be the dealer principle.Tell him your story to see if he can help.

However what is common with the 2.0 ECU is a problem in the programming for the altitude sensor. If it has an ECU version earlier than V05 it needs to be changed to eliminate this. The engine management light is the bain of the 2.0 Octavia. Emission related faults are very common but can be attributed to a few things. There are a few value blocks to look in which will help in the diagnosis. Last one I nailed was a fluke if im honest. I changed the valve in the crankcase breather pipe on the inlet which sorted it. The lambda probes were picking up the fuel vapour in the inlet from the oil/crankcase and thinking it was running rich.
