Will my wheel-bolts fit

Featured Replies

Hi

Can any tell me if the wheel-bolts from my 18 inch alloys can be used on 16 inch steel wheels.

I'm changing them after curbing the alloys yet again and because of the poor ride quality of the low profile tyres.

thanks

I would have thought so as the car I just bought (13 reg) got the dealer to put a spare wheel in and that's steel

Provided the steels are to the correct spec. Yes. I have done this on my Superb with oem steels for winters, same bolts as standard alloys

Edit:

Whilst the 16" steels are better protected against curbing, don't expect a dramatic improvement in ride as in my experience they don't make a lot of difference. Having said that I find the ride fine on the 18" standard alloys

Thanks for your replies.

Didn't consider the spare is steel so the bolts must be ok to use.

As for the ride I had a loan car an Octavia on 16 inch wheels while mine was in for some work doing

the ride difference was amazing no crashing or banging on our well maintained roads.

I don`t think if the Octavia suspension is any higher spec then the Superb so this must be down to the

higher profile tyres soaking up the shocks.

I agree actually that the 16s don't make a massive difference to ride quality, it is noticeable yes, but not dramatic versus the 18s, although I do wish the 18s were slightly better. Having said that my experience of 16s is on greenlines with lower ride. I reckon a non-greenline with 16s could possibly be more comfortable!

To answer your question, yes they should fit.
