Buying advise Octavia TDI 105

Featured Replies

Hi guys!

Me and my girlfriend have after some deep discussions realized that it will be a Octavia next time!

Because I drive so much as I do (25000km/year) so are a diesel the only option for us. To keep the costs down as much as possible we're looking at the 105hp engine.

What do you think of this engine? Is it any good? I know it's not a speedster but is it enough?

The DSG7, is it any good? Read a lot about it being a crappy automatic with the petrol engines so I'm not sure about it.

Also, what accessories should you recommend me to look for? Things that's nice to have!

Hope I'm not causing to much trouble!

Best regards, Jimmy

Hello.

We bought our 1.9 DSG a couple of years ago now.

We came from a Seat Cordoba 1.9 PD130 6 speed manual.

We don't miss the extra power at all!

The 1.9 has more than enough power especially with the DSG gearbox. It's the 6 speed gearbox BTW... the 7 speed is only used on lower powered engines.

We had 5 people in the car last week driving to the airport with 5 suitcases in the boot and hand luggage. Car was very heavy but still I managed to pull away effortlessly from the traffic lights and onto the motorway. Also managed 50mpg too.

If you are looking at the DSG gearbox just make sure it's had it's 60,000km oil and filter changes.

Hi Phil!

I meant the DSG7 and not the DSG6 :)

The Octavia's we're lookin at are 2012-2013 that did came as a Greenline aswell. But because I want towing hook and a webasto (hate to freeze my ass of in the winter) the Greenline isn't an option.

Was the 1.9 still available in 2012/2013? It wasn't here! Discontinued in 2009 after a short production run the Facelift model.

Nor was the 1.9 available with the DSG7 only the DSG6. This is because the 7 speed has a torque limit that the 1.9 exceeds.

No Phil the 1.9 wasn't avaliable in 2012-2013, it's the 1.6 TDI we're looking at :)

If you are going to be a city driver, even though doing 25000km/year. If yes donnot recomend, if not the hell yes it´s a good engine.

All you need to know is how to use the engine, rev it and when doing regenerations no need to highway drive.

Thanks Alberg!

Well, sometimes in the city but mostly it's highway or highway-ish roads :)

I see that you given yours a reprogramming aswell? How much difference does it make? And gets the fuelcomsumption any lower with that done?

Ooops. I forgot for a second about the possibility you were referring to the 1.6! lol

The only experience I have of one is 7 weeks of driving an Ibiza FR 1.6 106.

Generally I liked it. Bit quieter than my 1.9 and still pretty pokey although needed revving a bit more.

MPG was disappointing considering ours is a lot heavier and DSG.

A run down to Alton Towers with 2 friends gave a dash readout of just under 50mpg and that was sticking to limits and driving economically etc.

We would have got a real world MPG of over 50 in our Octavia.

The DSG6 box that is paired with the 2.0Tdi engine is probably a more reliable gearbox due to having a wet clutch that is cooled by the oil compared to the DSG7, as a lot of issues seem to related to the DSG7 dry cluch gearbox fitted to lower engine models

Thanks for the response guys!

And also a good answer on the DSG7, it's not on the map as it feels now!

It's to bad that the 1.9TDI have much higher taxes here i Sweden since it's a sin to drive a diesel :/ Think it's about 150-200£ more expensive per year.

But it sounds like a solid and good car which is nice to hear :)

I've also got one more question. Been searching around but only bumb in to different answers so, what's the difference between a ambiente and a elegance? And do you know if it's possible to find the broschure on the Octavia II online?

That site didn't work for me :/

And as you said, there may be differences :)

Hi guys!

Just wanna let you know that me and my girl where and tried a TDI 105 yesterday and as the price was very good and the car was in exellent condition we decided to buy it :)

So now I'm a Octavia owner, just waiting for the seller to make the last adjustments so we can pick it up :)

Very nice!

Looks like it's the Elegance judging by the wheels, headlamp washers and rain sensor.

Hope you have the keys soon and you can start enjoying it.

That's correct!

It's a MY10 Elegance plus with rain sensor, DRL, heated front and rear seats, CC, Maxidot, de-attacheble towing hook and some more :) Only things it doesn't have that I'd like to have is a Bolero or bigger (only got Swing), no BT and no MFSW.

But I'm pleased with it :)

Lovely car, must be cold over there for it to have rear bum warmers as well.

That's a good spec. Didn't even know rear heated seats were an option on the Octavia.

Does it have any auxiliary heater installed? This isn't even an option in the UK which is annoying!

Get a Columbus sat-nav and Bluetooth module fitted and you'll be sorted!

Yeah it can be cold as **** but generally there's about -5 to +5°C in the winter, at least in the south. In the north it's not unusual go get -25°C.

No I didn't get one with the heater, looked at some with it but they where more expensive and it's not that common either, not for a Skoda atleast. Volvo on the other hand has most of the time a heater :)

Will look after a columbus, but they seem pretty expensive? :(
