Rear fog light fault

Featured Replies

i have a late 09 fl octavia estate 1.6tdi and have an odd problem.vcds is showing that there is a problem with the left (passenger) side fog light not working when I checked it the bulb just barely glows .i put a meter across and it only reads 1.8v should be about 12-13v.there is no warning on dash that there is a bulb out.the right side light is perfect can anyone shed any light on this problem (no pun intended)

Thanks in advance. Brian

Front or rear fog light?

The MkII leaves the factory with only one rear fog light activated, the off side.

The bulb is a single filament 21W bulb, it is dual purpose, tail light (4W) and fog light (21W). The CANBUS dictates how bright the bulb is dependent on the required function.

Are you sure it isn't simply the tail / night light you are seeing?

(note: the MkII Octavia hatch has twin filament bulbs, the estate has single filament)...

It is possible to activate the second (nearside) rear fog light on the pre-FL, I have on mine, but it has never been proven to be possible on the FL, so it is strange that your car is showing a fault on an unactive feature.

It is even more strange to see a bulb failure in VCDS but not get the on-dash blown bulb warning...
