Hi everyone!

Featured Replies

I found this forum whilst looking for some answers. I live in Shropshire and own a Fabia 1.4 Classic-Hatchback.

My hubby and I are planning to go and live in Mexico....sometime in the next couple of years. My problem is...when I bought the car in 2003, my need for air-con was forseen to be minimal! Mexico is another story!

Question: Can it be fitted in retrospect or would it be cheaper to buy another car over there? We are planning to ship over alot of stuff and the shippers will put the car in the container, so there is no added shipping cost.

I hope someone knows or can point me in the right direction or right website.

Many thanks

Lisbeth

Hi :wavey:

I'm not sure where the best place here to post that question would be, to be honest, since I don't know where the best knowledge of spares etc in Mexico would be. My instinctive reply would be whether you could do a trade-in for one with custom air conditioning.

Not to worry though, as someone better informed here will probably come along and post tomorrow

Welcome :)

Mo

Possibly swap it plus a few quid at the dealers for a car with air con?

Alternatively, sell it and buy something else in Mexico - cars are probably much cheaper over there anyway and will have better local service support than a european car. Also, don't they drive on the right?

Welcome to the site

I'd recommend a quick post on the 'Ask a Tech' forum, to see what can be done. I'm guessing the most cost-effective thing to do is sell the Fabia here, and get something else when you move over there.

Steve

Certainly not cost effective to retro fit a/c.

Welcome to the forum though :)

It might not be cost effective to run the Fabia out there unless there's Skoda garages out there - also, even if there is, its likely to use different parts for the same type of cars. Something that had better be looked in to. In your shoes I would sell the furby here and buy some air-con'd out there.

I thought they all drove aircooled VW Beetles out there? ;) Much "cooler" than a Skoda.

Thanks to all of you who responded to my post!

I did wonder ( ) if it would be better to buy over there, but thought I'd check things out...I'm quite attached to my little car!

Yes they do have right hand drive ....but the cars over there are not THAT cheap to buy.....

Still, we're not going just yet, so by the time we do, I might be happier to part company! ;)

If you do decide to part with it, there's always the For Sale or Wanted section on here!

Didn't know the Mexicans drove on the left?

On the cost side - buy in the USA and drive it down?

Steve

swap for another furby with AC here and take it with you... u'lll sure stand out in the croud over then then

Good morning to you all! :)

Some interesting comments....and advice, thanks

Buying in the USA is something I had not thought off Steve, and possibly something to keep in mind. :D

If I did decide to get something here, the 'Sale and Wanted' will be my first port of call.

Goochie...yes they all drive 'beat-up' Beetles! Air-cooled! Yes ...no windows! When you look at the cars there, you don't really want to take your 'pristine, beautifully and fantastically modified little gem'...

As they don't have to go through an MOT, you can imagine some of the stuff on the roads. The driving is horrendous and the speed-bumps are leathal! ...........and:cop1: so long as you've got some pesos at hand, you get away with it!

BUT

I'm still going to go and live there! :guapo:

PS I like this forum!!

Lisbeth

welcome :)
