Glowplugs flash + EML + "P2454"

Featured Replies

Hi all,

So my symptoms are a few days of flashing glow plugs and/or EML. Got a non-VAGCOM diagnostics code of P2454 (in other threads I see this attached to "Diesel Particulate Filter Differential pressure sensor voltage too low"). No DPF light.

The mechanic who did the diagnostics saw the word DPF and suggested I do a clear-out driving on the motorway, but I do a lot of motorway driving and, looking at other threads, I think it may be one of a couple sensors. I see "exhaust gas temperature sensor", "DPF sensor", "Exhaust differential pressure sensor" in different threads! Are these all the same thing?

At the moment I'm thinking to buy a "DPF sensor" (~£60 from TPS), replace myself (I think), but I read about needing to calibrate it / run an adaption cycle(?). Please just help me clarify if this is sensible!

I'm just paranoid about leaving this problem too long and ending up with four-figure DPF replacement costs :S Cheers guys!

How many miles has the car done, and where do you buy your diesel.

Once you have it sorted out maybe buy a different brand.

My car's done a lot, probably about 120k miles. I became aware about avoiding the supermarket brand fuels some months back and avoided them since for Esso, Shell, BP etc, but given the number of miles I've done that is probably to blame.

So do you think replacing DPF sensor sounds about right?

I bought the DPF sensor today, £60 odd, if I go to someone with a VCDS what exactly am I meant to ask for? Does anyone have info on DPF sensor calibration?

 "exhaust gas temperature sensor",

When I had the same symptoms as you on a 1.6TDI this was the issue- replaced by Skoda free of charge, but it was in warranty.

Cant help but watching this thread for future reference, isnt the lifespan of a dpf around 120k anyway?

Could just unplug the sensor and see if you have the same issues
