Buying a 2005 Superb

Featured Replies

I am thinking about changing my car and coming back to a Skoda, I have seen a 2005 Superb edition 100 1.9 pd, auto, one owner from new with full service history and 150,000 on the clock. I am looking for some guidance regarding the engine, is this kind of mileage ok, would it be good for many more miles etc???

Thank you in advance

my 2005 has 228k, did have major engine work done at 223k people said why did I bother my answer was shes comfy plenty of toys and to find a replacement that I would enjoy as much would have cost me a lot more.

I have the same car at almost the same mileage (149K).  I had to have the gearbox redone at 98K - check if you have history of fluid changes, which minimizes risk of this.

Lots of bits are starting to go at this sort of mileage - I can hear one window motor is noisy, a heater flap is clicking, coolant temp sensor and thermostat need replacing, some small amount of coolant loss, and I think some of the suspension arms etc are going to be needing renewing soon.  None are major (well, coolant might be), but if you can't do them yourself they add up.

I love the Edition 100 spec, and it is a lovely car to drive.  The engine is a bit tractor noise-wise though, and the gearbox does hold onto gears a bit too long, which puts it in the "wrong" gear a lot of the time.
