There is halogen and bi-xenon.

 

Both use projectors for dipped headlights though (the same as the MkII pre-FL).

 

These are the halogens, note the indicator is a non-LED bulb and the DRL's (again non-LED) are inboard of the dipped projectors (main beam bulb at reduced brightness)...

 

 

The bi-xenon lights get LED DRL's (over the top of the (LED) indicators). The inboard bulb performs the flash function...

Yeah, the xenon's also get self leveling (sensors on the suspension) and the headlight wash system, plus as you mention the igniters and ballasts, as well as the £80 bulbs.

 

Not a cheap retrofit.

Given the replacement costs id avoid a car with them, my Epica had some high output bulbs (£24 each) which sounded dear to me

You need this shape, although this one is bi-xenon, strangely all the ones on eBay are, it's usually the other way around!

Completely agree here. Had them since my 08 Octavia and definitely couldn't go back. Have a bit of time recently in cars with halogen lights and its like having two candles lighting up the road!

My DRL option uses the headlamp, all the foglamps on ebay come "inc DRL"

 

can i use 1 and ignore the DRL?

No, the foglights with DRL are pre-FL (pictured below), on your FL model the foglights are a different shape and are foglights only (plus cornering function if enabled).

 

Its getting headlamp and foglamp tomorrow, assuming the right ones turn up, Skoda know which are right but repairers dont always use OE parts
