remaps

Featured Replies

Hi All, Heard so much about remapping, more fuel economy more power ect, can anyone tell me if there are any down sides to this, is there more stress on mechanical parts, If it's so good why don't manufacturers do it in the production of cars. any info will be appreciated,

sorry hit the mouse twice

Some Manufacturers do offer a Warranty on a Remap, ie Ford / Mountune.

But the Volkswagen Group build and sell to play safe,

so the car has more power available, but they are selling more reliability with not all the power available.

But they might sell you a 86 ps 1.2 TSI.  & then also offer a 1.2 TSI with 105ps.

Same Engine, same Mechanics. different MAPPED ECU.

They charge you maybe £700 for the more powerful version.

Someone will sell you a REmap to take your 86ps to 105ps. even 120ps.  but then you Void your Manufacturers Warranty.

They down tune every engine, so they will run in any country and conditions on any fuel.

We have good conditions and good fuel quality, so we can turn up the available performance.

As long as you go for a well known and reputable remapper, you'll be fine.

Shark Performance, revo, p torque are all good and had good experience with them.

Best of luck and go for it

Cheers

Production cars have to be tuned to compensate for low quality or stale fuel; idiot owners; extremes of temperature; poor servicing; towing 3 tonne boats and a dozen other parameters they have no control over.  Plus, if they give them the maximum amount of power now it doesn't leave room for slight power increases at each new model.

Downsides -

Yes, the engine and drivetrain will wear quicker but not significantly

Your warranty for related components usually goes out the window

You get the best results if you run the most expensive fuel

It's the start of a slippery slope - once you start modding you can't stop.
