1990 Mk2 Golf GTI 16v, 2.0 9A, Quaife LSD, track/fast road project - SOLD :-(

Featured Replies

I've got this on other sites but thought I'd post on here to a more discerning audience!

Why am I selling?

It's a bit of an overused cliche but I'm looking to sell as I just don't have enough time to use this car and brought it hoping I'd be able to do trackdays.

Well almost 3 years later (owned since 09.12) this hasn't happened so time to move on..

I'm also reducing my 'fleet' of cars and bikes (toys) and have already made space to own a Skoda once more (hopefully in a couple of weeks  )

The Car

MK2 Golf GTI 16v

I’ve covered around 10k in my ownership using for commuting as well as the school run.

Full Specification

1990 Mk2 Golf GTI 16v – 161k which will increase as I’m using it as much as I can before I say farewell!

Magnex 4 branch manifold

Ottinger high torque inlet camshaft

Quaife LSD (fitted at 124,212 on 06.06.08)

Braided Hoses

Scorpion Stainless exhaust with twin DTM style exit

Solid front engine mount

Fully polybushed suspension - subframe, wishbones, rear beam etc.

Koni Coilovers

Magnecor HT Leads

13 row Oil Cooler

Audi S2 Front brakes with 280mm drilled discs

Grooved rear brakes

Upgraded radiator from diesel with slimline twin electric fans

Strut brace

MK3 Steering Rack & UJ

Weighted gear shift

Audi tilt & slide sunroof

Single wiper conversion

HID Headlights with LED sidelights

There's probably more I've missed however....

During my ownership I have continued to main the car with:

New Calibre 15” Alloy Wheels with Vredstein Sportrac 3 tyres

Replaced rear discs, pads and bearings

Gear linkages and bushes

Replaced front ball joints, tie rods, tie rod ends, and all boots when steering rack was changed

New rear engine mount

Interior is currently original with great condition Ultra violet seats and door cards.

Opportunities

VDO gauges have been fitted in replaced of the ICE and although the illumination functions they have not been wired to senders etc.

The smoothed rear hatch comes from a different vehicle (not correct colour) although it is fitted to with what I believe to be a rare Votex (experts let me know :)) spoiler.  The hatch is also the only area where there is rust really present and the rest of the shell is sound (albeit dinged!)

Sunroof is in the right colour but has been rattle canned so not great – also needs adjustment – internal panel is present but not fitted at present. some rust now showing on the edges of the panel

I purchased this car with the intention of continuing to fettle and do track days which sadly has not been the case.  I have been using in-between other vehicles for my 40 mile commute as well as the school run.

Body work polishes up to a presentable standard although there are numerous dents and scratches and some lacquer peel from previous painting.

It's definately not a minter and I didn't mind this when I purchased as in my mind I was happy to to live with the dents and scratches especially as I'd intended it to be used on track.

MOT is in place until the end of November 2015 and all the advisories from the original test last year were addressed.

I also have a full alternative interior consisting of Cobra reclining bucket seats with FIA mounts, door cards and rear bench for the purchaser to consider.  In addition I have a spare set of Team Dynamics alloys with Toyo TR1’s which are also available by separate negotiation.

Mechanically all apears well although the power steering is a little whiny. I have a spare pump which should improve.

I've advertised elsewhere for £1,850 but am happy to discuss offers to anyone seriously interested.

Any questions please ask, but bear with me as I work long hours - Mobile 07749 850 224.
