Our family car is a rapid, but my work commute it a 63 plate VW Polo R-Line.

I have recently started to get a squeaky brake when I brake softly to a stop.

It also squeaks when I back out of the garage sometimes (when I'm not even braking)

If I brake medium to hard, it's ok.

The car only does an average speed of 20mph with about 6 stops at lights over the 14 mile round trip.

It's only done 4900 miles so far, mostly this journey, so the brakes are never used properly.

I just wondered if anyone had an opinion on what's causing the squeak?

They need used and since they are not very much they need some servicing and maintenance.

So the Calipers need lubed so that they slide, 

and the pads need removed and a little Copper Slip applied to the rear, then see how the brakes behave.
