  1. Thanks Chris. I swapped the wiper from my polo and put it on the rapid. Even though it’s half the length, it still didn’t work. I guess it must be the motor. The dealer has quoted £180 for a new unit. I would try and get a second hand one, but there seems to be multiple varieties of fixing for the same code. With my rapid variant having such a short production run, I guess nobody will be inclined to stock mine.
  2. Hello all. I’ve had our Rapid Sport since new. The rear window wiper started having trouble and was sticking and stopping 3/4 of the way across. I can help it on its way by hand, but it would not complete a cycle unaided. I took the assembly apart and the mechanism was full of wet gunk. I suspect the washer water may have been leaking in. I have cleaned and lubricated the system and the motor seems to be fairly strong. I certainly can’t stop it by hand. However, putting it all back together, it still won’t wipe a whole cycle unless the window is sprayed with water. The windscreen resistance dry seems to be too much for the system. Do you think the motor itself is damaged? Is there any way of reducing the resistance on the window? many thanks in advance, Alex
  3. Thanks for your advise. I bought a smart charger from Amazon, as when I looked at the connections to the battery in the car, it looked quite tricky to remove. The + had a whole module of cables bolted to the top. The charger did a test at the start on the polo and gave it 20% its been recharging since yesterday now and seems to be sitting at 90% now. I bought a Ring 12A Smart Charger as it said it was safe to use connected as it's is very careful with what it does.
  4. Ahh, I see. The radio checks the car to see if it's the right one. that does make sense in this day and age. many thanks, Alex
  5. Hello All, I can't seem to search the forum on my iPad. we have a 64 Rapid and a 63 Polo. They both have similar radios. I need to charge the batteries as the cars don't do many miles. I have looked in the manuals, but can't find any radio codes. Will I need codes if I disconnect the battery's? If so, how would I find out what they are? many thanks in advance, Alex
  6. It's now the TRON light cycle skoda.... Lol
  7. We fitted gator protectors to ours as the damage to the rims was awful. I understand that these protectors will not "help" the life of the rims as they will trap moisture and dirt causing premature corrosion, BUT they look cool until I get around to getting new rims. Cost £25 per wheel fitted. They look great, but are taking quite a beating. I skim off the scuffs with a sharp knife.
  8. Our Rapid and my Polo both have the rain sensor. It works ok for us, but we do have to leave the sensitivity to maximum all the time. (All the way to the right) I haven't had it on any other car, so can't comment about other systems. It does sound like yours has a bad sensor.
  9. I covered the pedals with cloth and sprayed a tiny amount of oil onto the plastic clutch joint pivot point and it cured the issue immediately.
  10. Hello All, Our Rapid 1.2TSI has developed a loud squeak when you depress the clutch. However it is intermittent and comes and goes. It's either full on squeak, or nothing at all. It's not our shoes or slippery pedals. Is this something I can sort myself with a little lubricant? Many thanks, Alex
  11. Which tyres would offer a quieter ride and better rim protection? Our sport has the dunlops and I hate them....
  12. Chris is amazing! Extremely helpful to all posters, and says it straight. He should get a Forum Award.... Keep up the good work...
  13. Perhaps I will try a smaller stick and less music. I do have the music on twice. As there is no "mix all folders" option like the polo, I had to make one folder with all the album tracks duplicated in it to allow proper random. The folder is called "mix"
  14. Hello All, With our 2014 Rapid, we have a memory stick plugged in for our music. Whenever we start the car, it says Initialising MDI. Then carries on playing our tunes. Sometimes it can take up to two minutes for the notification to disappear and for the music to continue. Sometimes it starts after just a few seconds. It seems random. I have a Polo with a similar system and it always starts instantly. I've tried the same stick in the Polo and its instant. Does anyone else's Swing Unit take ages to get up and running with USB. Many thanks, Alex
