A few questions on uprading to DAB

Featured Replies

Hi All

I'm considering making the leap to DAB from my current setup.  Stream MP3 in an Octy 2008 (vrs if that matters).

Im guessing the sensible option is a second hand VAG unit, I've found a couple of reference lists that say what the units do, but nothing so far that say much about the sound quality.  Are there any particular units I should be looking for to get a better sound as well as DAB.

Bluetooth would be useful, sound quality & DAB are the focus, and nav would be a nice to have but I wont pay a fortune for it.

I know I will need a new aerial, I assume a body mount will give a better signal than the windscreen jobs?

Lastly, how good is "national" dab coverage, does it still vary greatly locally, or would it been on par with Radio 1 & 2 fm coverage?

sorry for the noobish questions & thanks for any help.

Cheers

Simon

I run a vw rcd510 which is he same as the ŠKODA bolero

Reception wise its very good although I can't receive 5 live extra but 5 is there

We only have a screen mount aerial as the car is leased and although I probably will buy it at the end of the lease indont want to roof mount the aerial if the car is going back

Johnny5 is selling his dab&nav unit in the for sale section if that helps

I've tried a few screen antennas and all have been rubbish. Its possible to replace the roof antenna with a DAB compatible one, and that doesn't involve any drilling and so on.

That's strange my dab screen has been faultless thus far

I dare say you can swap the base but it will involve running the extra wire for the dab
