Will these bigger alloys fit the Yeti/clear the calipers?

Featured Replies

Hi all, one thing I still don't seem to have fully gotten my head around is how a wheel sits when it has a different width and a different offset. My primary concern is brake caliper clearance but I also know the top of the front tyres sit fairly close to the damper strut.

Currently I run a variety of OE Skoda 17" alloys. Offset is ET45 with a width of 7J. I therefore know I currently have 9mm clearance between the inside of the spoke and the face of the Porsche NQSBBK Brembo caliper.

I believe the bigger the offset number, the more inwards the wheel sits?

So...

How much clearance would I be left with if I swapped the summer/performance alloys over to some 18" 7.5J alloys with an offset of ET51?

I understand the offer will take them in towards the caliper but wouldn't the additional .5" width bring them out again? Or is t it that straight forward to calculate?

You will lose 1mm clearance on the caliber and 13mm clearance to the strut:

That is providing the new wheel doesn’t have thicker spokes!

Now that's a very useful link! Many thanks Gizmo! :)

Hmmmm. I don't think this will end well :(

That does look rather snug... although on our 2014 L&K fitted with 7”x17” ET45 Origami wheels I have approx 25mm clearance to the strut (measured by how far I can get my finger between the strut and sidewall)

Interesting. That would indicate that I should be ok but with the max camber I can run up front and the fact (iirc) I no longer have the standard oe damper units (which iirc are shaped/indented to clear the top area of the sidewall) I reckon I'm in for a let down :(
