Hi everybody!

 

"Brace yourselves, winter is coming", and my driver side heated seat isn't working at all. :(

 

Can anyone help with any sort of information, or photos, anything, how can i fix this problem, so my backside doesn't freeze in the mornings?

I guess check the fuses, but if a fuse has blown beware that B5.5 Passat heated seats are known to set fire to people's trousers - so worth investigating further...

You can buy the whole car wiring diagrams for about £6 via the Skoda ERWIN website; should be more than enough info there to trace it back (if you are that way inclined)

Thanks jimbof, i think the fuses are ok, because the passenger side works very good.

But i'll take a look at it.

And after that, when it's not solved, i start looking through the whole wiring etc.

 

I'm affraid though that it will be the heating matte under the cover of the seat, and that is a hard thing to repair.

As you say, it looks like common fuse for both seats, so unlikely to be the fuse.

Leather or fabric seats?  it looks like for leather seats the backs and base elements are wired in parallel, and for fabric seats they are wired in series.

Is the back and the base cold?

My money is on the heater elements. Remove the seat strip and replace. Might be worth getting some plasters they are tight fit. Don't forget the metal rings to re attach the leather to the squabs.

I have the fabric seats, and both back and base are cold.

Today when i got home, i inspected the fuse, it's ok. Tried changing the 2 switches, still driver side cold, passenger side barely warming on level5.

 

Next step will be the heater elements. I'll buy some thermistors, and try to remove the seat strip carefully and repair the heater.

Makes sense.  On fabric seats the back and base are in series, so if either breaks you would lose both.  There is a 2 pin connector under the seat which is the connection to the heater elements, I'd guess you should be able to measure across that and see what the impedance is of the two elements.  There is a 2 pin connector "in" the seat (I don't know where, just reading off the diagram) for the backrest element; you could use that to isolate the two elements and test individually.

I saw a solution on a passat forum, and that guy changed the thermistor, and the heater was fixed. Any idea what sort of thermistor/leaded thermistor do i need? (type, or how many °C should it take?)

You're better off downloading them yourself from ERWIN.  It is a few euros to buy an hour of time, and in that time you can download all the diagrams as PDFs and keep them for posterity.  I have mine on my phone which is a great portable reference.
