Hi, my skoda yeti pinged a warning light about half way through a 100 mile journey. The diesel coil light has lit up and I had problems maintaining speed. Has any one got any ideas? Thanks

Manual says - The warning light  lights up after the ignition has been switched on. Once the light has gone out, the engine can be started immediately.

 flashes - there is a fault in the engine management system. The system allows operation emergency mode - there may be a noticeable reduction in engine performance.

There is a fault in the glow plug system if the warning light  does not come on or illuminates continuously.

Seek help from a specialist garage.

Sorry I'm not technical, but thought the manual might help you a little.

How old is the Yeti?
The glow plug light coming on while driving is not related to a glow plug fault, it could be any one of a number of faults.
It really needs any stored fault codes read by a garage or someone with OBD II equipment to do that.
 

The glow plug light doubles as a "somethings gone wrong" light. There is a wide range of possible causes, only a fault code scan will tell the problem.

thought it was mainly egr  probs when on the move! --  probably wrong though!

This happened to me once when test driving a new Diesel  Yeti.  After 4 miles the glowplug light came on and the engine power dropped right down, presumably in  'limp home' mode. Rather offputting !  We duly limped back to the dealer.  Never did find out the fault of course, but maybe a succession of short and slow test drives weren't  very kind to its DPF. 

 

In your case the cause should be quickly revealed by interrogation using a Fault Code Reader.

In my Octavia I've had a flashing coil light and limp mode caused by a faulty dpf sensor and a split boost pipe.

It's a 10plate yeti, 40,000 on the clock.

My worry is I need to drive home on Monday to get my son to school. The light has gone off now but I haven't driven it so I don't know about power if it's still gone

That should brought the dpf light on first and by the time it went into limp mode it wouldn't have been able to regenerate on it's own.

OK, if it is any help,

My fiat 500 diesel used to have the glow plug light on perm when it needed a DPF regen, ( despite it having decent motorway journeys), following manual instructions of a 23-30 mile or 20 - 25 min journey at 3000 rpm would eventually clear it.

The issue i had is that it would come back on again after 50 - 60 miles, & i would repeat the whole process, ( doesn't help fuel consumption), took it back to dealers twice & they ended up changing all the sensors to do with the DPF and the problem went away ( all done under warranty as issue started after 8 months ownership)

 

As the light has gone off it is very likely to be DPF regen, however do not say if you are doing lots of short runs ( i.e. less that 20 miles ).

if you are doing lots of short journeys, you will now need to expect a short journey / high rev session to complete a regen

 

If you are doing 20+ miles a day then take it to a dealer to see if there has been a fault logged ( mine didnt, but i got it to dealer with the light on & they could interrogate ecu.) otherwise it could be as already suggested DPF sensor issue.

 

When my glow plug light 1st came on -  I logged milage / date / time  when it started and followed manual to complete regen, and contuned to log each time & after the 5-6 short time / mile interval regens it was evident I had an issue as i was doing 110 miles a day with over 50 of these on motorway.

But the Yeti has a specific light for the dpf which only comes on when an active regen is required. The coil light should not come during a passive or active regen, only when the dpf is so blocked it goes into limp mode, when the dpf light will already be lit.
