OEM head unit into older car (polo 9n)

Featured Replies

Hi all, I'm new on here (friend advised me to join) and have a polo 9n so plenty of useful info to be found in the mk1 fabia section.

I was wondering if it is possible to fit an OEM head unit such as the RCD 310 dab or better into an older vag car? Probably a long shot but worth a try. I'm used to the higher spec head unit in an Octavia mk3 and like the way it works.

Thanks,

Mat.

Basically no.

It is possible but would require some fiddling to get it to physically fit and there would be no off the shelf trim available so may end up looking messy and awful.

Then you would need a CAN adapter and a wiring harness (I assume the Polo has standard ISO connectors whereas the RCD 310 will have SOT connectors). The reason you need a CAN adapter is the RCD is just fed a 12v live (no switched live) and "told" by the car when to switch on and off whereas the Polo being non-CAN based will just have a perm and switched live.

Thanks Phil. I wasn't aware of the differences in wiring. Very much appreciated!
