Front brake pad change.

Featured Replies

Has anyone done a front brake pad change on fabia 2 and if so how hard is it? Do I need a piston wind back tool? Car is monte 1.2tsi. Any info would be great.

Pretty easy, but as always brake work is not for a novice.

No piston wind back tool required.

Thanks for that. I recently changed front pad on insignia so I should be able to tackle the fabia.

Cool. Not meant to sound patronising but we have to be cautious not knowing what people's skill levels are.

Your Fabia will have the FSIII type brake caliper. The carrier is part of the hub so just remove the slider bolts (7mm Allen key). Just make just the bottom of the caliper is correctly located into the carrier. Should make sense when you see it.

I have used a g-clamp to push the pistons in before but bit the bullet and got a wind back tool last time as it is easier to locate to push the pistons back in... you will always have it for other occasions. Machine Mart had them on offer just prior to chrimbo, so may well still be cheap. I also have a proper bolt tool but a longer socket one may be quicker. Sometimes its just a bit fiddly getting the bolts back in the threads as you need to line it up accurately and apply a little pressure to get the thread started but not too hard.
