Finally worked this out.

I had updated my maps to a newer version and had tried to use the lovely Skoda MyDestinations portal to update the maps.

The problem is it still thinks its 2014, so if you have newer maps it attempts to update and fails and then leaves it in a loop that tries to update the POI's each time you start the system.

So the solution was to create POI files in both the Skoda and VW systems

Then take the two corresponding MIB directories from the VW files to replace the entries in the Skoda directories

Then load that file into the car and it will fix the error

From then on use the VW site, god knows when Skoda will update theres.

I had taken my car into the local garage for them to try and fix it and they replaced the whole unit (£200) despite me telling them its a software error, I work in IT.

But all good now
