Octy Mk2 2010 - Switched live wire for rear camera

Featured Replies

Morning, happy Friday :)

I have a dashcam in the front of my car which takes a switch live from the fuse box. Nice and easy.

I've decided I'd like a small dash cam for the rear as well. Just wondered what the best options were in the boot for taking a switched live (comes live with ignition on)?

Cheers

I would run a wire around the headlining to the front camera feed and just tap into that. If it's just the 5V mini USB type connection just buy a 5 mtr cable and cut the excess off.

My rear dashcam takes its feed from the rear wiper motor, and comes on with the ignition. Don't know much more about it as I paid an auto electrician to install it.

I have a Transcend DrivePro 200 at the rear, and a Roadhawk DC2 at the front. Due to their different sizes, I wish they were installed the other way round as the DC2 is a lot slimmer than the DrivePro.

The DC2 records all the time so may prove handy if someone bumps me when I'm away from the car.

Cheers guys.

I have a Nextbase 402G on the front which is great quality.

A couple of months after fitting it, some **** on their phone rear ended me. Couldn't prove he was on his phone, with a rear camera I could've.

Was just thinking about getting a cheaper Nextbase variant for the rear as rear enders are usually fairly conclusive.

mine is fed from the boot light(tip of the  hat to Mike Holdroyd)  I soldered a wire from the feed  (pre resistor side) and fed a power pack in the left hand cubby hole then under the plastic trim and under  the hatch rubber seal seal to wherever the camera is  this comes live as soon as the car is unlocked

This is where I take power from too for my reversing camera.
