Electronic handbrake can be activated while driving

Featured Replies

As per title... Driving at 10 mph (empty road I may add) if you enable the handbrake it works and slams the brakes on and then releases a second later.

Interestingly the braking force felt like if was the front wheels with the nose dipping.

How does the electric handbrake work , any diagrams ?

? Thanks

I think that you will need to ask your friendly Skoda Technician how that works, I'm just about getting to grips with the Infotainment System lol ;)

Page 13 of the guide suggests that if the parking brake button is pressed while the vehicle is in motion, hydraulic pressure is used to brake rather than the electric motors (presumably generated by the ABS/ESP unit).

EDIT: Bit more about this on P24-25.

BMW ebrake does the same. Pull it on in an emergency and it puts the service brake on first not the parking brake. If the parking brakes shoes are anything to go by, I suspect they aren't actually capable of stopping the car in the event of both service brake circuits failing.

I had a Passat loaner with an electronic handbrake and I tested the eBrake function on an empty country road. It's the same as coming to an emergency stop via the brake pedal. Might be useful if a passenger needs to stop the car with the driver incapacitated or a problem with the pedal etc. It's all covered in the manual.
