Changing gear kn0b

Cant for the life of me work out how to get the gear kn0b off in my Octy - reading another post it was said there is a clip that holds it in place if you life the surround up - well I do that and found something that looks like a clip but cant seem to see any way of removing it. I was advised by someone else that on the Octy you just "turn and pull" I'm dubious about doing this without further confirmation tho as I really dont want to break anything!
