Oil Level light, but level is fine. No VCDS errors

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Having an issue where my car using oil.  I topped it up again so it was at the max line.  Today, I've been installing my MFSW and coded it in. Started the engine and noticed the oil level light was on.  Checked the level (oil cold at this point) and it's still well within tolerances.  It was about half way, but obviously oil is cold so I'll try again when it's warm.

I've ran a few auto scans in VCDS and there's no errors.

It's definitely the oil level light and not the pressure light.

What could be the issue??

Cheers!

Do not try again when 'Warm',

Check again when at 'Operating Temperature',  ie after the Oil is at the Normal Running Temp which is up above 80*oC, nearer 90*oC,

Stop on the level, give it a 'Few' Minutes, Skoda do not say, but a Few is not 5 or 10 or even 15 minutes, so maybe 4 minutes.

They say check when fueling, so that is minutes, not after a COSTA Coffee.

Skoda lose something in Translation, English from German & VW being different from Czech to English.

Sorry, bad terminology/habit on my part. I tend to say cold when not at operating temperature, and warm when at operating temperature.

I'll take it out and give it a go.

Just been out, came back checked oil at operating temp.  Bang on max line.

Lights out after opening and closing the bonnet, but I suspect it'll be back on soon in under 100 miles...

This is the light, on speedometer instrument.

Current thoughts are possible oil level sensor in the sump, or a dodgy bonnet switch? I'm aware that having the bonnet open for >30s will turn the light off, but if no oil has been put in, will it will come on again in 100km.  I though a bad oil level sensor made this light flash, and I'm confused how a faulty bonnet switch would know the bonnet has been open for >30s.

A bit stumped...

Do the windscreen wipers work?

If they do it's not the bonnet switch.

Could it be something to do with the oil pick up line?

What oil did you use when you changed? How long ago was it?

Possibly something op did when recoding.

Not sure how? All I did is code the steering module for the mfsw.

Regarding oil change, it was last done in October with 5w30 but sure exactly which one. I should probably change it soon anyway. I have quantum iii
