The dreaded diesel smell

Featured Replies

Just got myself a 2012 Octavia Estate 1.6tdi

Noticing a diesel smell in the car. but can not find or smell anything outside. (no noticeable external leaks)

It is bad enough to make my cloths smell!

Any ideas where I should start the hunt? (or advice for the rubbish car sales place?)

Id start by looking in the fuel pump area.

If I'm correct pull up the rear seats. There should be a plastic lid.

Pop that off. The fuel pump and associated bits should be in there.

OK good start: i found that, took of the plastic cover... all looks very dry: possibly a bit 'smelly' but not sure. everything is!

certainly no visual signs of leaks sound the area

Fuel filter under the bonnet would be a good shout.

You sure it's a fuel smell and not fumes?

Almost definitely diesel smell. Inside the car only. No smells outside.

The bottom of the seat where the fuel pump cap is certainly smells, but is dry.

Taking it back to the garage tomorrow. Will be looking to return the car under the sales of good act.

Only owned car for 5 days! Will hope to exchange for another. (Probebly a 4x4 octavia!)

Diesel spillage at the filling station tracked inside on soles of footwear?

Perhaps previous owner carried diesel and it's leaked?

New car probably valet has hidden the smell now it's dried out?
