Air conditioning not working at all

Featured Replies

We've got a 2.0 FSI Elegance estate. Last year the air conditioning stopped working completely. The fan / eco mode is fine but it's not pumping out cool air.

We took it for a service last autumn and asked for the air conditioning to be repaired. They found a small hole in the radiator panel and replaced it and did a refill. The air con still didn't work and they weren't getting anything useful from the error codes apparently. We decided to put off doing more work at that point until the weather got hotter.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone would recommend an indie air con specialist in the Worthing / Brighton area? We've got a long journey coming up soon & an 8 month old baby so it'd be good to get it fixed!

Check to make sure it's gassed. If it's not, find a place that dyes the refrigerant. That way, if/when it leaks again, they'll know where it's coming from. (The dye lights up under a UV lamp)

Technically an illegal practice now for finding an AC fault.

Illegal to allow the refrigerant to enter the atmosphere.

Oh and so what does one do if the system pressure goes low?

Recover and check gas level. If low carry out vacuum test and hold for minimum of 45 minutes. If vacuum is lost charge the system with oxygen free nitrogen and trace leak using a bubble solution in a trigger spray.

Very interesting and thanking you

Roughly translated:

Hand over lots of money to someone else who has the time and tools to do this

-or-

give up and open the window

-or-

buy a new car

;) ;)

If the air con system has been at atmospheric pressure for any length of time its advisable to change the dryer as well to make sure your getting maximum efficiency
