Hatch not locking

Featured Replies

A small irritation that's started after 16 months of nigh-on faultless ownership. Initially only once a few weeks ago, but now twice in two days.

I go to my KESSY equipped parked car, open the electric hatch, throw stuff in the boot, press the close button on the hatch, get in the car as it's closing, start it up (by which time the hatch is closed) and the maxidot shows the boot open.

I get out, go to the boot, find it's closed but not locked/latched and I can pull it open by hand.

I open and close it by fob, switch or sheer brute force and always the same result: I hear the electrical mechanism whirring, the latch engaging, then 5 seconds later a clunk and it's unlocked/unlatched itself again.

The only way to then get the boot to latch and lock is to switch off the ignition and lock the car, wait about 10 seconds before unlocking it, whereupon the doors unlock and the hatch locks.

I'm not running back to the dealer yet but I will if it continues. It's the kind of thing I'd usually ask them to look at when it's in for service but the next one isn't due until September.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this happen?

It has nothing to do with the key-in-trouser-pockets issue and there is nothing obstructing the hatch internally or externally.

I had the same on a s80 volvo it turned out to be the micro switch in the boot lid replaced under warranty perfect

It would shut fine but would open as you drive away it was a pain but sorted quickly by dealer

Thanks. It does sound like the same kind of problem, especially as it's taken over a year to manifest. I'll get them to look at it sooner than later.
